Are you Skill Set Ready?
We're Setting You Up for Success
At ATOL, we want to make sure you feel confident and supported from the very beginning of your training. That’s why we ask you to complete a short Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) self-assessment before you enrol.
This isn’t about passing or failing. Instead, it’s about giving you, and us, a clear picture of your readiness for the course.
Because this program is delivered at a Certificate IV/V level, the self-assessment helps you understand whether the course is the right fit for you, and how challenging (or straightforward!) you might find it.
What is the LLND Assessment?
The LLND self-assessment asks you a few short questions about your skills, includes some simple practical tasks, and finishes with a brief written response. It only takes about ten minutes, is free to complete, and you’ll receive customised results instantly.
The most important thing is that you answer honestly. There are no pass or fail marks. Your results won’t stop you enrolling — they simply help you see whether this course is the right fit for you, how easy or challenging it may feel, and whether a little extra support might help before you start.
Why It’s Required
Completing a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) self-assessment before enrolment is a regulatory requirement under the Standards for RTOs 2025.
Standard 2.2 makes it clear that all Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) must review the skills of prospective students before they enrol.
This requirement applies across the entire vocational education sector. It isn’t just an ATOL process, it’s something every RTO in Australia is obligated to do.

Your LLND Questions Answered

Why do I have to do this before enrolling?
Because it’s now a regulatory requirement under the Standards for RTOs 2025 (Standard 2.2).
All RTOs in Australia must review students’ Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) skills before enrolment. Not just here at ATOL.
This ensures the course you’re enrolling in is suitable and that any support you may need is identified before you start.

Other RTOs didn’t make me do this, why is ATOL?
If you’ve enrolled in an Australian Nationally Recognised Competency Unit elsewhere since 1 July 2025, without doing an LLND first, that provider was not meeting their compliance obligations.
The Standards are very clear: the review of LLND skills must happen prior to enrolment.
ATOL is fully compliant, which means we take these requirements seriously so your learning experience is set up for success.

Do I have to pass the LLND assessment to enrol?
No. Completing the LLND won’t stop you from enrolling. Instead, it gives you a clear idea of whether this course is the right fit for you and shows how hard or easy you might find it.
Remember, this course is delivered at a Certificate IV/V level, so it’s designed to be a challenge, but with the right support, you can succeed.

Will this effect my enrolment?
No. The LLND assessment is a support tool, not a barrier.
It helps us make sure the course is right for you, and that if any extra support is needed, we can provide it.

What happens if my results show I might need extra support?
That’s okay. The results help us understand how best to support you.
You may be offered additional resources or guidance so you can begin your training with confidence. The LLND is about support, not exclusion.

Will my results be shared with anyone else?
Your results are reviewed by our Customer Service and Training teams. This helps us assess your suitability for the course and determine whether any additional support may be useful.
Your results are kept confidential and are only used to meet compliance requirements and to make sure you’re supported in your learning journey.

How long does it take & do I need to prepare?
The LLND self-assessment is quick, around 10 minutes, depending on your skill level and honesty.
No special preparation is needed. Just make sure you are in a quiet place with reliable internet access so you can complete the assessment without interruption.

What do I get at the end?
You’ll receive customised results instantly, giving you clear feedback on your readiness for this Skill Set.

Are you sure this isn't just an ATOL requirement?
Yes, we're sure!
This requirement comes directly from the Standards for RTOs 2025, Standard 2.2. Every RTO in Australia must have this process in place and complete it before enrolment.
ATOL is simply ensuring we meet this requirement, and that you’re supported from the start.
